In the first paragraph, Doyle talks about the hummingbird and how much of a jewel it is. "and the white men had never seen such creatures." That quote shows how the hummingbirds were considered joyas voladoras. Also in the fourth paragraph, Doyle begins to talk about the blue whale and how mysterious it really is. "There are perhaps ten thousand whales in the world, and of the largest animal who ever lived we know nearly nothing." That quote represents how valuable and how special blue whales really are. In the fifth paragraph, the story is talking about hearts of different living things. However, the point of this paragraph is to show that no matter what type of creature you are, we feel the same way regardless. "No living thing is without interior liquid motion. We all churn inside." Finally, in the sixth paragraph, Doyle talks about how our heart, the human heart, contains so much in not just a lifetime but a hour or even a moment. We open up to each other, but we keep our hearts away.
